The Kessenichs Building was designed as a department store by Madison architect Frank Riley and constructed in 1923. The building is unique in Madison and is an excellent example of the French Renaissance style. In addition to its stylistic attributes, the building displays a high quality of craftsmanship in its materials and detailing. The name Yost came to be associated with the store in the 1930s when the Kessenich family rented space in their building to the Yost family. The building is a Madison Landmark and was nominated by the Madison Trust in 1998. home |
