In 1932, the weeks between August 13 through September 17 were being promoted as RKO’s Greater Show Season and the State Street Merchant’s Greater Selling Season. The Capitol Theatre, which opened in 1928, reopened its doors on February 23, 1980, as the Madison Civic Center, with the former Capitol Theatre renamed the Oscar Mayer Theatre.
The State Street Mall, conceived in the 1960s, was completed in 1982 as part of Mayor Paul Soglin’s downtown revitalization efforts.
