The Stoughton Opera House opened in 1901. The building is a fine example of the Romanesque Revival style, and originally housed the City Hall. It is one of just a few buildings in the country that had a performing auditorium on the second floor. Restoration of the Opera House began in 1997 and is still ongoing. Restoration should be completed in February 2001, the centennial of the first performance. The Trust has made a financial contribution to Stoughton Opera House to help with the remaining restoration costs. home |
