Grace Episcopal Church’s Vilas Window

Grace Episcopal Church was built in 1855-58 and designed by Milwaukee architect James O. Douglas. Constructed of local sandstone, it is one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in the state. A special element of this church is its stained glass windows, including one that was designed by Tiffany & Co. of New York City.

Another window in the church is named the Vilas Window. The quatrefoil (like a four-leafed clover) stained-glass window was donated to Grace Church by Esther Green Vilas in memory of her husband and six children in 1837. It is the oldest and only imported window in Grace Church. As the window is in dire need of restoration, the Trust has made a financial contribution to Grace Church to help restore this historic window.
