2007 Preservation Awards 444 North Baldwin Street
Kevin and Kelly O’Driscoll, owners Built in 1899, this Victorian home was owned at various times by Leonard Gay, Frank Wootten, John H. Younger, Fred Brown, Clara A. Younger, Freda Gregory, Roy E. Nelson, Frederick Winterbotham, and Dale Richardson. The land was once owned by James D. Doty and Halle Steensland. In 2005, Kevin and Kelly O’Driscoll, who live in the house next door, bought this house in order to restore it to its former Victorian splendor. Exterior renovations began in 2006 with the removal of transite/asbestos siding. The O’Driscolls took pains to replace siding with historically-correct cedar siding and shake that most likely duplicates the original. A three-color paint scheme was employed after careful research by Quincy Neri of Mautz Paint. Three layers of roofing were removed and replaced with architecturally styled shingles. The entire front porch and steps were rebuilt. The interior electrical was upgraded, a new furnace installed, and the attic insulated. The exterior work was done by the owner and Alan Hamielec. Kevin says, “the work is ongoing and will never be finished.” home |
