Our Mission The Madison Trust for Historic Preservation is a nonprofit organization established in 1974 to help preserve the architectural and historical heritage of the greater Madison area through advocacy and education. Historic properties in a community are tangible links with the past. They provide a place with its identity and enable citizens to appreciate their heritage. Preservation, restoration, renovation and revitalization all have a place in the Madison Trust for Historic Preservations efforts to maintain our historic heritage. The greater Madison area is rich with history. Madisons downtown alone has 34 properties on the National Register of Historic Places and three national historic districts. It also has four locally designated historic districts and more than 140 landmarked properties. The Downtown Historic Preservation Plan provides an inventory of historically significant properties to help the community identify and protect its heritage. This plan was created with the help of Trust members and it is something that the Trust will continue to foster. The Trust works with local, state and national organizations to promote the sensitive treatment of our architectural history and connect the past to our everyday lives with hopes to protect our future.
